Setup
The Basic Setup screen is where basic configuration settings are made. Most users will only need to name the Router (Host Name) and select the DHCP option. Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will require that you enter the DNS information. These settings can be obtained from your ISP. After you have configured these settings, you should set a password and set up the Router's DHCP server function.
Enter the data based on your ISP information.
Host Name | Enter a name for the device. Some ISPs may require this information. |
Domain Name | Enter a name for the domain. Some ISPs may require this information. |
Firmware Version | This entry shows the version and date of the Router firmware. |
Time Zone | Select your time zone for the Current Time display on the Status Tab. |
LAN IP Address | This is the Router LAN IP Address and Subnet Mask as internal LAN users in your home or office see it. The default value is 192.168.1.1 for the IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask. |
WAN Connection Type | This is the Router WAN IP Address and Subnet Mask assignment, as external users see it on the Internet.
Using PPTP, you must fill in the Default Gateway Address that is the PPTP server's IP that resides in the Modem's, WAN IP Address and Subnet Mask. You should also fill in both the User Name and Password fields, as directed by your ISP. You need to fill in both the User Name and Password fields, as directed by your ISP that is running HeartBeat Signal (HBS). |
Check all the values and click Apply to save the data. You can test and see if the settings are correct by connecting to the Internet. If you are using a Cable or DSL modem, reset your modem now.
Note: If your network is already running a DHCP server, you should disable the Router's DHCP server function in order to prevent possible conflicts.
For most users, the default values for the device should be satisfactory. The device can be used in most network settings without changing any of the values. Some users will need to enter additional information in order to connect to the Internet through an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or broadband (DSL, cable modem) carrier.
