+ Why don't I see all the features and functionality?
The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi mobile app and web application offer slightly different feature sets. If the feature you are looking for is not available here, go to
http://LinksysSmartWiFi.com on a desktop or laptop computer. Also note that some features are only available with some router models.
+ Where should I place my router for best performance?
The best placement for your router depends on your home or small business, and how you use the Internet and Wi-Fi. The primary consideration should be placing it as close as possible to the room where the router will be used the most. That might be a media room, a home office, your family room. After that, do not put the router in a cabinet or closet or near metal obstacles. Also, be mindful of the home's construction, layout, and things nearby that could block the signal.
+ When should I factory reset the router?
You should never need to factory reset your router-a very disruptive process. A factory reset restores your router to the state it was when you took it out of its box, requiring you to go through the setup process again. All settings you have customized in setup and since - things such as network names, passwords, security type - will be erased. The router's IP address will revert to 192.168.1.1, its default admin password will be 'admin' and the network name and password will be the same as on the sticker on the bottom of the router. All wireless devices will disconnect from the router, and the router will be removed from your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account.
You can back up your custom settings to a .cfg file and save it on your computer to reload after a factory reset, but a simple restart solves many connectivity issues.
+ What happens if I restart or power off the router?
A restart, which can be accomplished by tapping Restart router on the Router Administration screen, turns the router off and then back on. The router runs through a startup routine and re-establishes connection with the modem, which can solve performance issues. A restart is far less disruptive than a factory reset because all settings are maintained. Wireless devices will disconnect from the router, but will reconnect automatically once the router is ready and the devices find the network.
+ Can I add or remove tiles from the Dashboard?
No. The dashboard is a static screen, with the exception of the External Storage tile. External Storage will not appear on the Dashboard if there is nothing plugged into the available ports on the router.
+ What can I do if I am having router or modem connection issues?
-
If there is a problem with your ISP or modem communicating with your router, try the following:
-
- ○ Make sure that the network and power cables are securely connected.
- ○ Make sure that the power outlet that your router is plugged into has power.
- ○ Restart your router.
- ○ Contact your ISP and ask about outages in your area.
-
The most common method to restore connection for a modem or router is to restart (reboot) it by turning it off, then back on again. This gives the devices a chance to find each other.
-
- 1. Disconnect the power cord from the router and the modem.
- 2. Wait 10 seconds, and reconnect the power cord to the modem. Make sure it has power.
- 3. Wait until the modem's online indicator has stopped blinking (about two minutes). Reconnect the power cord to the router.
- 4. Wait until the illuminated Linksys logo is on. Wait two minutes before trying to connect to the Internet from a computer.
-
To restart your router using this app
-
- 1. Tap Router Administration on the main menu.
- 2. Tap Restart router at the bottom of the screen.
The router will restart. While the router is restarting, all connected devices will lose their Internet connection, and will automatically reconnect when the router is ready again.
+ Can I use the app on multiple devices?
Yes, your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account login and password will provide access on any mobile device that you can install the app on.
+ How do I view or change my Wi-Fi name and password?
Tap on Wi-Fi Settings on the main menu. Tap on the Wi-Fi Name or Password field you want to edit. Tap Save in the upper right corner.
+ What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz?
The basic difference between the 2.4 GHz frequency and the 5 GHz frequency is that 2.4 GHz has greater range while 5 GHz has greater throughput. That said, there might be many more devices in your home and vicinity operating on a 2.4 GHz frequency than 5 GHz. A general rule of thumb is to use your router’s 2.4 GHz frequency for low-demand activities (web surfing, email, social media) and the 5 GHz frequency for things such as streaming music/video and downloading/uploading files.
