Setup

The Setup screen is the first screen you will see when accessing the Wireless-G Range Expander. Use this screen to alter general settings.

After you have configured these settings, you should set a new password for the Range Expander (using the Password screen). This will increase security, protecting the Range Expander from unauthorized changes.

Firmware Version

The version number of the firmware currently installed is displayed here. Firmware should only be upgraded from the Help screen if you experience problems with the Range Expander. Visit www.linksys.com to find out if there is updated firmware.

You may assign any name to the Range Expander up to 32 characters. Unique, memorable names are helpful, especially if you are using multiple access points on the same wireless network.

The MAC Address of the Range Expander is displayed here.

IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway

Mode

If you have Wireless-G (802.11g) and Wireless-B (802.11b) devices in your network, then keep the default setting, Mixed. If you have only Wireless-G devices, select G-Only. If you have only Wireless-B devices, select B-Only.

SSID

The SSID is the network name shared among all devices in a wireless network. The SSID must be identical for all devices in the wireless network. It is case-sensitive and must not exceed 32 alphanumeric characters, which may be any keyboard character. Make sure this setting is the same for all devices in your wireless network. For added security, Linksys recommends that you change the default SSID (linksys) to a unique name of your choice.

SSID Broadcast

To broadcast the Range Expander's SSID, select Enable.  When wireless clients perform a site survey of the local area for wireless networks to associate with, they will pick up the SSID being broadcasted by the Range Expander.  If you do not want to broadcast the Range Expander's SSID, then select Disable.

Channel

Select the appropriate channel from the list provided to correspond with your network settings, between 1 and 11. All devices in your wireless network must use the same channel in order to function correctly.  Most Linksys wireless devices use Channel 6 as the default.

Wireless Security

The Range Expander supports  Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).  To enable Security Settings, click the Enable radio button. Then click the Edit Security Settings button to configure the security settings. To disable security settings, keep the default setting, Disable.
