Port Forwarding
Port forwarding can be used for 2 purposes:
- To allow Internet users to access servers on your LAN
- To allow PCs on your LAN to use Intnernet applications which would
otherwise be blocked by this Router's firewall.
There are 2 "Port
Forwarding" screens
- UPnP Forwarding - this is the default screen, containing 10 Preset
Applications, and 5 Customized applications. Customized applications provide
settings for "Internal" and "External" ports.
- Range Forwarding - this screen provides 10 Customized applications.
For each application, the "Internal" and "External" ports must be the same,
but a port range (rather than a single number) is supported.
Preset Applications
On the "UPnP Forwarding" screen, you can use the Preset application list to
quickly establish a Web server, E-mail server, FTP server etc on your LAN.
- Enter the IP Address of the PC running the Server software.
- Use the Enable or Disable checkbox to enable or disable the Server as and
when required.
- The Protocol (TCP or UDP) can not be changed.
- The "External" Port numbers (the Port number used by Internet users) are
the default values for each Server type, and can not be changed.
- The "Internal" Port numbers should be changed ONLY if you configure the
Server software to use non-standard port numbers. In that case, enter the Port
number the Server software is configured to use.
Customized Applications
If you run non-standard types of Servers on your LAN, and wish to allow
Internet users to access these servers, you can define your own server types.
Check the documentation for the Server software to determine the protocol and
port numbers it uses.
- Name - Enter a name for the Server.
- External Port - Enter the required Port numbers:
- The "External" ports are the port numbers seen by users on the Internet.
- On the "UPnP" screen, the port must be a single number. If a range of
port numbers is required, use the "Port Range" screen.
- Each entry must be a number between 1 and 64534.
- Protocol - Select the required protocol (TCP or UDP). If your application
requires BOTH protocols, use the "Port Range" screen, which allows both
protocols to be selected.
- IP Address - Enter the IP Address of the PC running the Server software.
- Internal Port - Enter the required Port numbers:
- The "UPnP Forwarding" screen provides an "Internal Port" field.
- On the "Port Range" screen, the Internal ports must match the External
ports.
- Internal ports are the port numbers seen by the Server (PC) on your LAN.
- Enter the port number which the Server software is configured to use.
- Enable - Use the Enable checkbox to enable or disable the Server as and
when required.
