Setup

The Basic Setup screen is the first screen you see when you access the Router by typing its IP address into your web browser location window. You may configure the device and get it working properly using only the settings on this screen. For most users, all you need to do is give the device a name and select the WAN Connection Type as DHCP. Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will require that you enter the DNS information. These settings can be obtained from your ISP if they are required. After you have configured these settings, you should move on with the installation by setting a password and setting up the DHCP server function of the router.

Enter the data based on your ISP information.

Host Name	Make up a name for the device. This entry is necessary for some ISPs.
Domain Name	Make up a name for the domain. This entry is necessary for some ISPs.
Firmware Version	This entry shows the version of the firmware you are using.
Time Zone	Specifies the local time zone for the device. The real time can be obtained from the Internet through the Network Time Protocol(NTP) automatically.
LAN IP Address	This is the IP Address and Subnet Mask of the router as it is seen by internal LAN users in your home or office. The default value is 192.168.1.1 for IP and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask.
WAN Connection Type	This is the WAN IP Address and Subnet Mask of the router, as it is seen by external users on the Internet. If your ISP is running a DHCP server, (almost all of them do), check the DHCP (Obtain an IP Address Automatically) option. Your ISP will allocate an IP address for you. If you have a static, or fixed, IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway setting, put a check in the Static IP (Specify an IP address) option.
DNS (Domain Name Server) IP Address	Your ISP will provide you with at least one DNS IP Address. Enter it here. You can also fill these DNS IP Addresses on 'DHCP' page.
PPPoE	You have to check with your ISP to make sure whether the PPPoE should be enabled or not. If so, you should also fill both the User Name and Password fields which provided by your ISP. You can also check the Connect on Demand option to connect/disconnect the PPPoE connection automatically. After you select the Connect on Demand feature, the PPPoE connection will be disconnected if it has been idle for a period more than the Max Idle Time setting. If you check the Keep Alive option, the router will always try to keep the line alive. Note: It will not be disconnected automatically if you set Max Idle Time to 0.
RAS	The Alcatel Remote Access Service(RAS) is a profitable access technology developped by Alcatel. SingTel Magix uses Alcatel RAS as the main method to authenticate with their ADSL servers. This method uses TCP port 5555. The configuration steps will be shown as below: Select the RAS as the login method. Enter your Username. For example, a 512k user should use one of the following formats: username or username@INT512 . Enter your Password. Select your RAS Plan. For example, a 512k user should choose 512k Ethernet. Press the Apply button. Users can see the RAS status in Status menu.
PPTP	This device can be worked as a PPTP client. Some ISPs, especially in Europe, will require that you enter both user name and password which provided by ISPs to logon to their PPTP Server. You have to fill those parameters here. If you do not know the PPTP Server IP Address, leave this field as 0.0.0.0.
Telstra BPA Cable Login	This is a PPPoE-like login method used in Australia only.

Check all the values and click Apply to save the data. You can test and see if the settings are correct by connecting to the Internet. If you are using a Cable or DSL modem, reset your modem now.

Note: If your network is already running a DHCP server, you should disable the Router's DHCP servering function in order to prevent possible conflicts.

For most users, the default values for the device should be satisfactory. The device can be used in most network scenarios without changing any of the settings. Some users will be required to enter additional information in order to connect to the Internet through an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or broadband (DSL, cable modem) carrier.

ISP authentication with host name: If your ISP requires a host name in order for you to gain access to the Internet, you will need to give the router a name. Enter the name to the Host Name field.

ISP authentication with MAC Address: If your ISP requires a MAC Address in order for you to gain access to the Internet (this is very rare), you will need to supply the router's MAC Address. You will find the router's MAC Address listed after the WAN IP Address caption on the Setup page.

ISP authentication with special program: Some ISPs (like America Online) require special software to connect to the Internet when using their service. Contact your ISP or Internet provider and ask about using their service with an IP router.

ISP account with fixed IP setting: Some ISPs will allow you to connect to the Internet using a fixed, or static IP address. Enter the related information, (Network mask, Default Gateway and DNS), into the proper fields on the Setup screen.
