Basic Setup 

The Basic Setup screen is where basic configuration is performed.Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will require that you enter the DNS information. These settings can be obtained from your ISP. After you have configured these settings, you should set a router password from theAdministration->Management  screen.

Completing the Internet Setup section is all that is required to set up for your specificISP. Please look at the table below to configure the Router for your Internet connection.

Internet Connection Type

This is the Router's Internet IP Address and Subnet Mask assignment, as seen from the Internet.

The following are Internet Connection Types :

If your ISP is running a DHCP server, select the Obtain an IP automatically option. Your ISP will provide you with an IP address. Your ISP may require you to fill in both the Host Name and Domain Name fields. If your ISP requires MAC address validation, this can be done from the Setup -> MAC address clone screen.

If your ISP provides a static or fixed IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS setting, select the Static IP option. 

If your ISP provides a PPPoE connection, follow the configuration steps below:

  1. Enter your User Name and Password.
  2. Check the Connect on Demand or Keep Alive option.


If your ISP provides RAS (for SingTel)connection,  follow the steps below:

  1. Enter your User Name and Password.
  2. Select your RAS Plan. For example, a 512k user should choose 512k Ethernet.
  3. Check the Connect on Demand or Keep Alive option.

SingTel Magix uses Alcatel Remote Access Service (RAS) as the main method to authenticate their ADSL servers. This method uses TCP port 5555.

If your ISP provides a PPTP connection, follow the steps below:

  1. Enter the  IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway  Address
  2. Enter your User Name and Password.
  3. Check the Connect on Demand or Keep Alive option.

If your ISP provides Heart Beat Signal connection, follow the instructions below:

  1. Enter your User Name and Password.
  2. Enter your Heart Beat Server address.
  3. Check the Connect on Demand or Keep Alive option.

You need to fill in both the User Name and Password fields, as directed by your ISP.

You can also select the Connect on Demand option for automatic connection. After you select the Connect on Demand feature in the status screen, the connection will be disconnected if it has been idle for a period longer than the Max Idle Time setting. If you check the Keep Alive option, the Router will always try to keep the line connected.

Optional settings allows you to enter the Host Name,Domain Name, and MTU. These settings may not be required for all ISP. Below areoptions you for your settings.

Host Name

Enter a name for the Router. Some ISPs may require this information. This is used by some who get an IP address automatically from their ISP. For most users, this is not required.

Domain Name

Enter a name for the domain. Some ISPs may require this information. This allows some users who get IP address automatically from their ISP. For most users, this is not required.

MTU

Select Disable toturn off MTU.  Select Enable to manually set the MTU size.Enter an appropriate size; check with your ISP for more information. Manually setting the MTU is not required by all ISPs.

The Network Setup section lets up set up your local network IP address andyour DHCP Server.  

LocalIP address

Enter the Router's IPaddress.  This iswhere you can change the IP address. For novice users, it is notrecommended to modify this setting.

Subnet Mask

Enter the Router's Subnet Mask.  For novice users, it is notrecommended to modify this setting.

The Network Address Server Settings section  is where you canconfigure your DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server.  This willautomatically assign the IP address for each computer connected to theRouter.  By default, it is set to allow for 50 computers.

LocalDHCP Server

Enable the DHCPserver if you want the router to automatically set the IP address for eachcomputer. Select Disable to manually assign an IP address to each computerconnected to the Router.

Start IP Address

Enter the IP address to start assigning an IP address via DHCP.

Numberof Address Enter the numberof computers to assign IP address
DHCP Address Range This will display the range of IP addressassigned in your network.
Client LeaseTime  Enter the number of minutes to keep theDHCP address leasebefore it expires.  If you leave this setting at zero, the lease time is one day.
DNS 1, 2, 3 Enter the DNS of your ISP in these entries.  Depending on your connection type, these entries may automatically be filled.
Wins Enter the WINS IP address in this entry. If you do not have a WINS server, leave this at 0.0.0.0.

The Time settings allows you to select your time zone. In the dropdown box, select the time zone you reside at.

Once you select the time zone, select the NTP server option Default NTP Server or User-Defined NTP Server.

Default NTP Server Select this radio button to use the router's default NTP server.
User -Defined NTP Server Select this radio button to define a specific NTP server. You can find NTP servers onhttp://www.ntp.org/. Enter the IP address or host name in the NTP Server prompt.

Enter all the values and click Save Settings to save the data. You can test these if  settings are correct by connecting to the Internet. If you are using a Cable or DSL modem, reset your modem now.

Note: If your network is already running a DHCP server, you should disable the Router's DHCP server function in order to prevent possible IP address conflicts.


For most users, the default values for the Router should be satisfactory. TheRouter can be used in most network environments without changing any of the values. Some users will need to enter additional information in order to connect to the Internet through an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or broadband (DSL, cable modem) carrier.
