Firewall

Firewall Protection option allows you to enable Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI). To Enable SPI, select Enabled. Otherwise to turn off SPI, select Disabled.

Additional Filters

The following options allows you to filter Proxy, Cookies, Java Applets, and ActiveX.

Filter Proxy- If local users have access to the Internet proxy servers, they may be able to bypass the proxy server's content filters and access the Internet sites blocked by the proxy server. 

Filter Cookies- A cookie is data stored on your PC and used by Internet sites when you interact with them, so you may not want to deny cookies.

Filter Java Applets and ActiveX- these are two different programming language for websites. If you deny them, you run the risk of not having access to a Internet sites created using these programming language.


Block WAN Requests

The Block Anonymous Internet Requests is a feature is designed to prevent intruders from attacking through the Internet. When it is Enabled, the Router will drop both the unaccepted TCP request and ICMP packets from the Internet. The hacker will not find the Router by pinging the Internet IP address. Click Disabled to allow those packets to get through.

IP Multicast occurs when a single data transmission is sent to multiple recipients at the same time. Using Filter Multicast feature, the Router allows IP multicast packets to be forwarded to the appropriate computers. Select Enabled to filter the feature, or Disabled to allow it to pass through.

Filter Internet NAT Redirection option allows you to block local users behind the router to gain access to the local server that is behind the same router by using the Internet IP address. To enable this option, select Enabled. To disable this option and allow local computers to get access to the local server, select Disabled.

Filter IDENT (Port 113) Prevents outside intruders from attacking the router through the internet using service port 113.  Select Enable to prevent attack through this service port.  However, some applications may require this service port to be available. If needed, select Disable to allow those applications to work.


View Log- This option will display any activity that was blocked by the firewall feature.
