• Dynamic Routing

The dynamic routing feature of the router can be used to allow the router to automatically adjust to physical changes in the network's layout. The router uses the dynamic RIP protocol. It determines the route that the network packets take based on the fewest number of hops between the source and the destination. The RIP protocol regularly broadcasts routing information to other routers on the network.

  • RIP DirectionThis field determines the direction that RIP routes will be updated.
    • None: RIP is disabled
    • Both: The router will incorporate received RIP information, as well as send out updated RIP information.
    • In Only: The router will only incorporate received RIP information.
    • Out Only: The router will only send out RIP information.
RIP VersionThe version of RIP can be selected in this field. The options are the following:
    • RIP-1: Routing data will be sent in RIPv1 format.
    • RIP-2B: Routing data will be sent in RIPv2 format using subnet broadcasting.
    • RIP-2M: Routing data will be sent in RIPv2 format using multicasting.
    • N/A: Routing data will not be sent.
InterfaceRIP broadcasts can be forwarded either on the LAN or WAN side by changing this selection.
